[Summit] protecting grass strips from trucks

I don't think that would be legal. When I called the traffic division to have the No Parking sign replaced, I asked about having a post installed like the one on the Fourth Street side of the Hope Street Fleet Bank. They said that they did not install that post. I wonder who did? I'd really like a large, decorative boulder on that corner.

Would it be legal to put the sort of iron loop in the grass strip that gas stations and other facilities put next to machines that shouldn't be overrun by cars? -John Landr

Wow, Paul. That is some bad damage indeed. I wonder if it was a newly minted (i.e., inexperienced) bus driver at the wheel.

Maybe you'll be following us to the suburbs soon? (Just kidding ... sort of!)

I've just gotten my new sidewalk and the damaged grass strip has been filled in with fresh soil. Sometime during the day today, a truck or bus drove over the grass strip and onto the sidewalk. Go to http://members.cox.net/pjaceto/GrassStrip.jpg to see a photo. Note the deep ruts in the "grass strip". Also note that a No Parking sign was flattened. This is what I have to put up with constantly. The tread and the timing (second day of school) leads me to believe that this damage was caused by a school bus. I have had a lot of trouble with them in the past. The bus company is going to post a monitor on the corner of Fourth and Summit for a few days to observe the drivers.

Even if this particular situation is resolved, this corner is still at risk. What if someone had been walking on that corner when the bus did this? Is there anything that can be placed there to prevent stupid drivers from coming up on the sidewalk?
