[Summit] break-ins

Ditto for us. Glad no-one was hurt physically, but having your home violated
that way can be very upsetting. It also effects all of the rest of us- it
makes me angry that someone is taking advantage of the fact that our
neighborhood could (usually) be more casual because we were safer than some
big cities. Apparently no more. Unfortunately times seem to be changing.
This is the third string of break ins in the last few years.

I don't know if it is related, but this was the first year I had a lot of
hot peppers taken right off the plants outside my house. It even once
happened as I drove up- I saw two men walking a dog help themselves in broad
day light. I didn't know what to say! "Don't take my peppers- they are a lot
of work to grow"? They didn't already know that?
Another person TOLD me he took some. I said "please don't!" I can give you
a few, maybe, but a) you can't know when I am trying to get a big enough
batch together for a sauce and b) then other people will think it is okay to
help themselves...
I guess maybe people think that since the peppers are right out there- I
can't possible think people won't take them. Well where do they expect me
to grow them? Indoors? Under lock and key?... feh.

Anyway, Alyssa said she was going to let her neighbors know about the
break-ins to aid in prevention, so I decided to do the same. I printed out a
paraphrased version of her email with a few additions, including how to join
this email list, and stuck it in all the mail drops on Sixth St between Hope
and Lorimer, and a few other places. Maybe we can all let some people know,
and someone will catch the person. The police can't be everywhere.
