Doug, this sounds like a great idea. I wish that I'd be able to provide it and apologize for not being able to help -- I won't be present at the meeting because it conflicts with a class that I'd already paid for and can't reschedule.

Here's an idea,...following the meeting that was mentioned (Summit Commons 99 Hillside Ave in the large room at 7:00 pm on June 9th, Bob McMahon will present information about the current status and timeline for the renovation of the Henry Bowen Anthony in Lippitt Park this Summer), can a "status report" either from the presenter or from a participant be posted in the Summit Neighborhood website?
A status report would enable everyone (who can't attend the meeting) to understand what's going on. And if further help (manual labor or letters to the mayor) is needed to get things moving, please add that to the Summit website too.
I applaud everyone involved for the great efforts so far to get Lippitt Park improved...from the many committed volunteers (without whom nothing would have changed for the playground or the fountain) and the City staff (who ultimately have to fulfill the work).
Thanks,
Doug

Hey guys I have been reading the exchange of words that seems to be taking place here--and I am QUITE impressed. If you ever get to check the 'business section' of the SNA home page--I was the person who wrote the business articles, after interviewing the owners or managers. I cannot take all the credit as I had an assist from John Basik. Good guying guys-this kinda sheds a new light for me (and perhaps others) that we all can be heard on neighborhood issues...and hopefully there will be others who see this as an opportunity to be heard.

I will be out of town with my fiance for a significant period. Attending weddings and planning our own! While I have a friend or two that may be in attendance, I should think that a forum such as this would be a suitable place to have such discussions. After all, we are a neighborhood organization, and these forums are designed to provide disclosure to those interested in seeing the betterment of the Summit neighborhood. While I have enjoyed some of the less "formal" conversations, i.e. the pay-it-forward freebies which I have enjoyed reading about (kudos on the excellent idea, by the way!); wouldn't it be prudent to bring some of these discussions right to the surface for our neighbors. From what I've experienced in meetings, they tend to go whatever way the most vocal participants prefer. Online forums (as many academics-oriented studies have shown) help those less inclined to voice their opinion in a meeting to come forward with their
thoughts and suggestions. Personally, I find that having a chance to read arguments and positions on some of these sorts of matters make them easier to research and respond to. Don't you think this should be a place for us to have some of these discussions?
Again, I am not trying to discredit anybody or any processes here. Just suggest that we are here for a common cause and everything is for the public good. So unless there is something to hide in these meetings, then why not have some of the discussions for those either timid or unable to attend on the forums?
Thanks again for the rapid response. It's one of the nicer things about this organization how quickly its participants speak up.

Andrew, any good answers to these questions would have to be lengthy ones. Rather than burden Jim or anyone else, why not take the opportunity to get involved! If you can't attend, could a significant other? Could one of your neighbors? Talk to someone, find out their ideas, share yours, and then make sure they get heard in one way or another.
Best,
Jesse

Jim -
Thanks for the notice. Not sure I will be able to attend, but I do wonder what the budget for the project will be. Additionally, what are some of the ideas that have been presented for the Lippitt Park project? Where will the budgetary funding be coming from?
Looking forward to hearing more.
