Dear Neighbors,
I met Chumley's "MUM" yesterday on Sixth Street. She had many tales to tell about her cat's wanderlust. She wants everyone to know that she adopted Chumley from an animal shelter and he was already declawed when she adopted him. She kept him as an indoor cat for six months, but Chumley cried non-stop day and night to be let out. She called as many friends as she could who live in rural or more suburban areas to see if they would adopt him and allow him to live safely as an outdoor cat. Sadly, she couldn't find any takers on the offer. Instead of returning Chumley to the animal shelter or putting him down, she decided to let Chumley have his way. She says he is the most determined cat she's ever owned.
I let her know that I will do my best to watch out for Chumley when he's over visiting at The Miriam, and we talked briefly about the possibility of Chumley becoming the first cat pet therapist at the hospital. I'm going to look into the feasibility of this.
If you want to meet Chumley, he may be making a star-studded appearance this Sunday at the Fall Festival during the Pet Parade. It all depends on Chumley and if he doesn't have other travel plans that day.
Sincerely,
Monica Anderson
