[Summit] Sewer Work -- advice

The folks working on the street are nothing but nice. However, you should be prepared for a huge amount of dust and dirt in an outside of your house and delays getting into and out of your driveway.

A note of forewarning: if you have a tankless water heater, you may be in for some cold showers. We had a tankless heater put in in December at considerable cost. It has never worked great, but with the lower water pressure we get about 90 seconds of hot water before it shuts off. The installer has been back twice and has now advised us that we just need to wait until the pressure is back to normal to see if there's an issue with the unit.

Hey everyone,

Does anyone remember the date when we can start putting all # plastics into
the blue bin? I vaguely remember it being in June.

Thanks,
Paul

Now! I am unaccountably excited about this, and realized I need a much
bigger bin now.

I came home a few days ago to find a contractor spray painting 9th Street
outside of our house. When I asked the spray painter when the work was going
to start, he shrugged and thought it might be next week. I asked if we were
going to get notice in advance, but he didn't really know.

For those of you who were able to make the meeting last week, what
arrangements have been made about providing residents with notice?

For those of you who live on side streets already affected, would you mind
sharing more details of the experience of what to expect -- beyond John
Bazik's posting about the heavy equipment and some personal conversation
about the loss of water pressure. Also, how long are the temporary hookups
in place?

We got none. They knocked on our door the morning they were putting
the water pipes in the street, but I was in the shower. I had to ask
them to disconnect the pipes and let me pull my car out.

I don't remember when the bypass was set up, but it's been at least a
month, and they're not done digging yet. At the meeting they said that
the bypass would stay up until a short time after construction is done, to
test the pipes and water quality. They gave us a map of the neighborhood
with the streets color-coded based on which streets will be done and when.

Here's a tip for people who will get bypass water. They connect your
incoming water supply to your garden hose valve, and disconnect your hose.
If you want to be able to water your lawn or garden, put a "y" valve
with separate shutoffs on it first. I happened to have one. Without my
asking, they were kind enough to leave the "y" in place so I can still use
my hose. It's a pretty heavy hose they connect, so I'd stick with brass.

I have a storm drain, which they have not done yet. But I've watched
them work on one down the street from me. They remove the curbs and dig
a huge hole to replace the catch basin. So much for my whining about
my landscaping. I expect it will be pretty thoroughly trashed.

John

The fountain is on. I first saw it on at 4:30 Jun 1, 2012. Enjoy.
Keep your little ones out of it.

What happens when one doesn't have a garden hose valve in the front of the house to connect the incoming water supply to?
