Just a gentle reminder: It's not a matter of "just ignoring" all but the
top post; the listserv format pushes everything into a long, unbroken
column of text, mashing together each and every reply associated with just
that ONE post. Multiply this by sometimes 5 or 6 messages in a single
digest and one begins to appreciate why trimming--as well as n on-topic
subject line--is not just polite but necessary.

Please, let's not question already long-established conventions of
netiquette with a thousand individual preferences; these exist for a
reason. Instead of creating work for others, please--pretty please--put in
the work yourselves _before_ you hit the fire-and-forget button. If you
want the full thread, simply use the link to the website provided atop
every email digest.
