¶ Don’t Miss School One’s Annual Student Art Show!

http://school-one.org/AboutUs/NewsEvents/ViewArticle/tabid/164/ArticleId/39/Don-t-Miss-School-One-s-Annual-Student-Art-Show.aspx

220 University Avenue at Slater (one block from Lloyd Ave. & Blackstone Blvd)

On Thursday, May 19, 2016, School One will host its annual art show. This year’s art show features the work of School One students, alumni and staff. An opening reception will be held at School One from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a Slam Poetry Performance at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and all are invited to attend.

Featured this year is the work of School One senior, Vesper Guo from Providence, Rhode Island. Miss Guo won a national gold medal at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards this year for her ink drawing entitled “Reflection.” Less than 1% of all art submissions around the country win at the national level. The gold medal will be awarded at a ceremony at New York City’s Carnegie Hall on June 2, 2016. Miss Guo currently has two sculptures on display at Providence’s Sprout Gallery and one of her photographs was recently chosen for a show at Pennsylvania’s Drexel University.

School One is a small, independent high school located on the East Side of Providence. School One offers an exciting array of art courses such as photography, jewelry making, surrealist art, graphic design, visual storytelling, video, painting and drawing, and sculpture.

>From its founding in 1973 in a bowling alley in downtown Providence, School One has attracted creative students. Many have considerable talent and a deep interest in the arts. They have been taught and mentored by the school’s top-notch art faculty (most of whom are professional artists). Every year a number of School One students are accepted at the country’s most prestigious art schools, including Pratt Institute, Savannah College of Art, Cooper Union, RISD, Fashion Institute of Technology, Mass College of Art and Design and the Art Institutes of Chicago and of Boston. Many of the school’s alumni became painters, illustrators, and sculptors as well as poets, authors and playwrights.

For more information about the art show, or to schedule a tour, please contact Julia Volynsky at School One, 401-331-2497 or by email at juliav at school-one.org.
