This is great info, but ... four people were in our two-family house at the
time of the package delivery and subsequent theft (five, technically, but
it's tough for an eight-month-old to answer the door). It's just that no
one from USPS bothers to ring the bell; they just dump the packages on the
porch. UPS and Fedex are a bit better about ringing, but often if they
don't need a signature, they don't bother either.

This wasn't a case of no one being around to receive the packages. It was a
case of us and our neighbors each losing a package to thieves because the
person dropping them off couldn't manage the struggle of pressing either
one of two available doorbells. :)
