Bikes Abound in Fox Point. The City's new JUMP bike-share program has launched in Providence, with 400 bikes available citywide and three hubs in Fox Point. The bright red, pedal-assisted bikes rent for 30-minute increments ($2) or for a monthly fee. Learn more and see a map, here.
Decorative Benches Foster Community on Wickenden. Have you noticed the new wooden benches located at tree wells on Wickenden Street? Ten "conversation trees," located from NAVA to the West to The Shop at the East, are the culmination of a joint project by Vin Scorziello, of the Wickenden Area Merchant's Association (and owner of Campus Fine Wines) and Jonathan Harris, Professor of Industrial Design at Johnson & Wales University. According to Scorziello, the goal of the project was to beautify the street, protect the trees, and foster community. "We've received positive feedback so far," he continued. "People have said, 'Wow! These benches are cool!"
Concerned About a Historic Property? The Providence Preservation Society is accepting nominations for its Most Endangered Properties list. According to PPS, the annual list "draws attention to buildings large and small that are suffering from blight, neglect, or threat of demolition." Learn more information and find the nomination form here and here. Image, Paul Carter.
FPNA Fall Meeting-Candidates' Forum: Save the Date. As Fox Point neighbors may know, FPNA holds two large neighborhood meetings each year, in the spring and in the fall, in addition to its regular monthly meetings. This fall, FPNA will host candidates for public office who will share opinions on pertinent local issues in anticipation of the November 6 general election. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 24, at 7pm at the Sheldon Street Church. More information to follow in this newsletter and on our website, here (also, see poster at bottom). Please mark your calendars! |
