Dear neighbor –

Every year around this time, I submit the budget for the upcoming fiscal year surrounded by my friends, family, City Council and staff. This year, because of COVID-19, we cannot be together for an update on our budget for fiscal year beginning July 1, 2020.

While these are trying times, we are working every day to meet the needs to meet the needs of our residents and business community in the face of this global pandemic. While we cannot be together, I would like you to join me the evening of Wednesday, April 29, at 7:00 pm for a special Facebook Live budget address broadcast after the budget is submitted to the Providence City Council.

Dear Neighbor, During these times of uncertainty, due to COVID-19, it is important now more than ever to keep the lines of communication open for you. National Grid has taken steps to modify our business practicesand daily operations to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19, on our customers and employees. The company understands the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed. As such, we have enacted policies and guidelines for our field and office personnelconsistent with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines. Our staff is following recommended social distancing protocols, using personal protection equipment, and more.   We also recognize that it is critical we maintain the reliability of our energy infrastructure during this pandemic – especially at a time when many customers are confined at home and depend onour services.  As a result, we have continued operations for projects that are essential to maintaining safe, reliable energy for the region while following strict health and safety guidelines.  National Grid is continuously monitoring releases from the CDC, the World Health Organization, and state health agencies, and we will continue to evaluate how best to meet our obligations amidthis evolving crisis. Gas Main Work and Traffic We plan to move forward with planned working hours of 7:00AM – 7:00 PM. During the week of April 27th, we will begin construction in De Pasquale Plaza, construction will take approximatelyone week, weather permitting. Once constriction is complete, the restoration phase will follow immediately. At the plaza, we will begin to install the next section of gas main and will continue that until we reach Knight Street. We will also make connectionsto some of the side streets as we have on the first section of the project. One lane traffic will continue to be managed by a police detail, throughout the completion of project.  Service Installation We successfully began service installations on April 20th, the crew has been installing 1-3 services a day, as anticipated. As always, we will continue to work directly with each business to ensure that we are not blocking access for deliveries, customers, etc.  Restoration and Looking Ahead National Grid is working with the city to define the restoration plan, we will communication all plans and updates as we progress through each phase of the project.  We’re here for you if you have any questions about the project. National Grid is working closely with the City of Providence Department of Public Works, Councilwoman Rachel Miller and Rick Simone from the Federal Hill Commerce Association.  We will continue to keep you updated on our progress and will send with weekly emails.      Kendra McAuliffe
