Dear Brown neighbors,I hope everyone is well. I'm writing with an update on campus activity for the next few weeks.
For the 2020-21 academic year, in order to de-densify campus, Brown implemented a three-semester model (fall, spring and summer) instead of the usual two. Therefore, as spring semester concludes, a modified version of Brown's Commencement will be held earlier than usual this year, April 30 - May 2. In-person ceremonies will be limited to graduates only, with families and friends asked to attend remotely. If you would like to learn more about Commencement 2021, please visit commencement.brown.edu.
On Friday, April 30 at 9:00 pm, Brown is planning a 5-minute fireworks display from the roof of Page-Robinson Hall (corner of Brown & Waterman Streets). In order to safely execute the fireworks, the immediate vicinity of Brown and Waterman streets will be closed on Friday morning from 5:00-7:30 am, and then briefly at 9:00 pm.
At the start of Brown's summer semester, student move-in days will be May 9, 10 & 11. Students who are newly arriving will observe a 7-day "quiet period" during which their activities will be limited, and will have COVID-19 tests on their arrival day and five days after arriving. All students will be enrolled in Brown's COVID-19 testing protocol for the summer. As local, state and federal guidance change around COVID-19 in the coming months, Brown's policies will be updated at covid.brown.edu, including Brown's COVID-19 Dashboard and Campus Activity Status. Brown is encouraging all students currently on campus to get the COVID-19 vaccine, and will require the vaccine for students for the fall semester, with limited exceptions.
The University is looking forward to a more normal fall semester and 2021-22 academic year. If you would like to learn more about Brown's plans for fall, please see President Paxson's letter.
Below please find street and parking restrictions related to Commencement. We thank you for your understanding.
Please feel free to be in touch any time at community at brown.edu or 863-3717.
Best wishes,Katie
