Free Open-Air Concert on Thursday, August 26 at Rochambeau Library
This small group are a few friends of ours - and they are wonderful!
Last time they performed outside the library, folks just loved them!
Also, I began dancing to their music (and song) and a bunch of attenders joined me, joyously!  If you have a bit of time on Thursday night and are or can be in the neighborhood (Hope Street near Rochambeau) come and enjoy!  (It's free!)

Blessings, Liberty G401-351-9193

Open-Air Concert: Gained in Translation

Gained in Translation will be performing on the Rochambeau patio on Thursday, August 26 from 6-7:30pm with a rain date of September 2.

Gained in Translation is a group of top notch musicians whose nine language, genre-hopping musical repertoire will take you from the subtle beauty of bossa-nova to the sheer exuberance of Russian Gypsy music, and everything in between! Come listen and dance to the favorites both familiar (and not so familiar!) by Frank Sinatra, Dionne Warwick, Dean Martin, Jobim, Los Panchos, Aznavour, Piaf and others. Famous songs in French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, German, Yiddish, and Russian are performed seamlessly interwoven with their English versions. Take a virtual trip around the world with the passionate sounds of linguist and singer Victoria Richter (vocals, accordion) and Moe Methot (vocals, rhythm guitar), Chris Brooks (lead guitar), Julie Fischer (bass) and Eric Heisting (percussion) as they explore the ever-expanding world of music and language.

Dear Neighbors,

I'm grateful that the impact of Henri was not severe, but please check in on any neighbors who may need a hand with yard clean up this week.

The dog days of summer are here. Please remember the basic guidance for being outside in extreme heat: water, rest, shade.

As the Delta variant continues to make COVID a part of our lives, please follow the latest health guidance for vaccination and masking. The governor and the Department of Health have resumed weekly briefings on the status of COVID on Thursdays. A note below about 3rd doses of the vaccine now available for key populations. Please look for further information about booster vaccinations in the coming days.

Let's take care of one another.

Helen

Pension Working Group
  |

  |

|
| The latest meeting of the Pension Working Group took place on August 17th. I am pleased that former City Councillor and Ward 2 resident Sam Zurier has been appointed to join me on this group.

The Working Group received an overall briefing on the city's financial position, revenue and expenditures as well as a review of the legal constrains in proposing reforms to the pension system. You can review the slide presentation here and you can see the presentations from an earlier meeting here.

The next meeting of the group has yet to be announced, but information will continue to be posted to this web site: https://www.providenceri.gov/controllers-office/pension-wg/

Wayland Square Development Update
  |

  |

|
| On August 17 I joined neighbors, the Wayland Neighborhood Association, and the Providence Preservation Society at a City Plan Commission meeting to testify against the proposed development for 230 Waterman Street in Wayland Square. The developers asked for a continuance to the September 28th meeting of the City Plan Commission, and I am hopeful that they will respond to community input and revise their plans. Details for the September 28th meeting will be posted to the CPC web site here: https://www.providenceri.gov/planning/city-plan-commission-cpc/

For more information stay tuned to the Wayland Neighborhood Association.

Public Input on ARPA Stimulus Funds
  |

  |

|
| As I have shared before, over the next three years Providence will receive $165.8M in federal stimulus funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). I have spoken out multiple times about transparency in allocating ARPA funding, as some of this funding has been allocated without any public process.

The city has now released a new web site about the funding, the Providence Rescue Plan.

The city is also asking residents to offer input through the City of Providence Recovery and Resiliency Task Force survey. Please take a moment to share your opinions!

The task force that the city appointed to guide this funding has now begun meeting and their recommendations are due in October. You can view minutes and material from their last meeting here. You can participate in future conversations here:
   - 8/24: Providence Rescue Plan Community Conversation Hosted By the NAACP Providence Branch.
   - 8/26: Providence Rescue Plan Community Conversation Hosted By The Latino Policy Institute.

Summer reminds many of us why we live in the Ocean State. If you’re looking for new places to explore by the water, check out Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council’s (CRMC) Coastal Land Right of Way Map. The interactive map indicates over 200 public water access points across the state. CRMC also has a helpful brochure that explains your rights while exploring Rhode Island’s beaches. Get outside!
