[Summit] Question re Verizon-fios

Hi all 
When I was on vacation,  on Aug 20 I got an email Fr Verizon Fios saying they were sending me a new set-top box which would “arrive soon “ and that  I had 20 days after it arrived to switch it in. If I didn’t I would loose the ability to record programs.  And btw  once I installed it all my already recorded programs would be lost 
Fast forward to Sept 2 when I returned : no new set box and no longer any ability to record programs ( tho I can watch “live” tv and my already-recorded programs.
My questions are: 
Have any of you had a similar experience? 
If so how did you resolve the problem  ?
In the larger scheme of things I am wondering if I should change my whole M O for watching and recording tv shows.

PS I realize I am behind the curve of technological change which may be a contributing factor
